Based in Uganda, East Africa, CTCA was established in July 2011, with the aim of reducing the consumption of tobacco by supporting governments in implementing evidence based tobacco control strategies in Africa. It is hosted by Makerere University School of Public Health, www.musph.ac.ug;on behalf of a Consortium of two other partners: Uganda National Association for Community and Occupational Health (UNACOH),www.unacoh.org; and Uganda Health Communication Alliance (UHCA),www.healthuganda.org . The Centre is supported by World Health Organisation (WHO) with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. It was officially launched on November 1, 2011.
