With the theme Tobacco Free Africa: An urgent call for joint action, the aim of the conference is to bring together all the tobacco control actors on the continent.

The conference will run over four days from September 27 until 30. Over the four days, there are three sub themes and nine research tracks that will be discussed. This covers tobacco control policy, tobacco use and surveillance.

The research tracks have been divided into three sub themes: Strides towards tobacco police and development, , Understanding the context for tobacco use and development and Tobacco use surveillance for development.

The nine tracks are as follows:

SUBTHEME ONE: STRIDES TOWARDS TOBACCO POLICY AND DEVELOPMENT

TRACK A: Policy and strategy; Tobacco Control Law; Feasibility of roll out and effectiveness, and robustness of tobacco control policies & strategies

TRACK C: Programming and Implementation Science; evidence-based interventions-enablers and obstacles; Strategies to penetrate grassroot populations/communities

Track F: The workforce and effective tobacco control

SUBTHEME TWO:  UNDERSTANDING THE CONTEXT FOR TOBACCO USE AND DEVELOPMENT

TRACK B: Tobacco Control Economics and Financing; cost-effectiveness studies, cost-benefit studies, effective tax regimes, illicit trade, tobacco industry interference.

Track G: Social Cultural Values and multiple risk behaviors

Track H: Novel Products, understanding the effect of emerging products on tobacco control

SUBTHEME THREE: TOBACCO USE SURVEILLANCE FOR DEVELOPMENT

Track D: Tobacco use trends, Monitoring, Evaluation and Surveillance status 

Track E: Alternative Livelihoods and Environment; Progress to-date

Track I: Tobacco use and COVID-19
