4th Annual EAC Health & Scientific Conference to discuss public health, social and economic dimensions of tobacco control &NCDs

The 4th Annual East Africa Health, Scientific Conference, International Health Exhibition and Trade Fair is due to take place in Kigali, Rwanda,  from March 27-29, 2013.  The Conference will be held under the theme, ‘ Regional Health Priorities and Opportunities: “Evidence for Action in the Changing Global Financial Situation’. One of the sub themes in on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) with a focus on public health, social and economic dimensions of tobacco control.

 

As part of the Conference, WHO and the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, are organizing a symposium that will highlight the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, economic issues in tobacco control including taxation policies, health costs of tobacco use, tobacco trade , trade agreement, illicit trade, control of  tobacco products and how all this links to non-communicable diseases  ( NCDs). The Centre for Tobacco Control in Africa is contributing to this symposium. 

Other conference sub themes include: Maternal and Child Health ( Achieving the MDGs for Maternal and Child Health); Health systems Strengthening and Quality of Health Care. 

The Conference is organized by the East African Community Health Secretariat: http://www.conference.moh.gov.rw/

and includes an international trade fair and health exhibition; The conference will be attended by international delegates, health researchers, scientists, policy makers and political leaders as well as global and regional partners and stakeholders  in tobacco control.
